A lot of good things have been said and written about Manchester City this season and most of their performances have been impressive.

However, Pep Guardiola’s side is far from the finished article and the Citizens have conceded in all but one of their Premier League games to date, something which will encourage Tottenham Hotspur ahead of Sunday’s clash.

City also shipped three goals at Celtic Park on Wednesday night which highlighted their defensive frailties although the caveat is that John Stones was given most of the night off until the visitors decided to go for broke at the end of the match.

In addition to the defensive question marks (with City still missing Vinny Kompany), there is also the absence of Kevin de Bruyne from the middle of the park, with the Belgian having earned rave reviews before sustaining a pesky injury.

So we’ve got a few negatives about a City side who are a day behind in their recovery and preparation compared to a Tottenham side who claimed a 1-0 victory away to CSKA Moscow on Tuesday night.

Mauricio Pochettino is getting a tune out of Spurs and this is an opportunity for the London side to bridge the gap to one point, while a win would also allow Liverpool and Arsenal to close ranks on the Premier League leaders.

Harry Kane’s absence isn’t necessarily a bad thing despite the raft of goals that the England striker has brought to the party, while Spurs have conceded just once in three home Premier League games to date.

That was a James Milner penalty although restricting Liverpool to one goal was a feat in itself and the defence is watertight thanks to that excellent central defensive partnership featuring Alderweireld and Vertonghen.

Sergio Aguero is the most lethal finisher in the Premier League although it’s too much to expect the Argentine to fill his boots in every clash and Raheem Sterling might find he gets little change out of a robust and tough-tackling Kyle Walker.

With Heung-Min Son in excellent form for Tottenham flanked by Dele Alli and Moussa Sissoko, some questions are going to be asked of Manchester City and we’ll have to get with the home side for this one.
