Tranmere won their first five matches of the season although they have tasted victory just twice in the past nine encounters and look ill-equipped to beat Wrexham on Saturday lunchtime.

This is a derby clash which will see the Cowshed full of visiting supporters and Wrexham managed to win twice at Prenton Park last season, enjoying a 4-2 win in the Football League Trophy before a 2-1 win in the National League.

Gary Mills remains in charge of the Welsh side and it’s been a tricky start to the campaign, although the Reds produced a bright performance at The Racecourse on Tuesday and they were unlucky to lose 2-1 against Lincoln.

They did previously claim a 1-0 victory at Boreham Wood, with Tranmere unlikely to cause too many problems if the 1-0 midweek reverse against Gateshead is any evidence.

Neil Aspin’s side didn’t need a particularly sparkling performance to enjoy victory at Prenton Park, with caretaker boss Paul Carden having to contend with a number of missing players including James Norwood, Connor Jennings, Steven Jennings and Nicky Maynard.

The squad are currently down to the bare bones and Tranmere have been vastly overrated in the market as a result, with Rovers effectively playing a shadow of the side that started the season in such good nick.

At the very least, Wrexham should avoid defeat in this game and they look a nice price on the handicap to walk away with the spoils.
