Ryan Giggs finally makes his managerial bow in earnest, with the Manchester United taking charge of the Welsh national team on Thursday night when they clash with the Republic of Ireland.

It’s always a bit tasty when two sides from the same shores clash and these sides are familiar with each other considering they met during unsuccessful 2018 World Cup qualifying campaigns.

Chris Coleman left the Welsh team following that failure and Giggs has picked a tried and tested squad for this Nations League clash, with Gareth Bale the notable inclusion.

Wales are virtually in cheat mode when they have the Real Madrid star to help them out, although they’re hardly a one-man team considering Aaron Ramsey is getting game time for Arsenal and looks to be in form.

Joe Ledley, Joe Allen and Andy King are also accomplished midfielders, while Derby’s Tom Lawrence looks set to play a part in this match and goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey has made a strong start to the campaign.

Martin O’Neill has been defending his style of football recently although it’s more on the pragmatic side of things and he’s likely to select a familiar team for this clash.

Shane Long doesn’t boast a particularly strong games to goals ratio for his country although 81 caps illustrates the confidence in this type of player, while James McClean, Jeff Hendrick and David Meyler will continue to be the engine room.

We’re happy to get with Wales to win this game because they have the best player on the pitch by a country mile and some Bale heroics could swing things in favour of the home side.
