MORNEY WING looked a reinvigorated horse when coasting home on his seasonal reappearance at Fontwell (3m2f) last month and Charlie Mann’s nine-year-old is taken to follow up in this afternoon’s 3m11/2f handicap chase at Warwick.

While it was only a class 5 that he won, he was carrying the welter burden of 11st 13lb and could have been called the winner a long way from home, with the decent gallop playing to his strengths as he’s a resolute stayer. The ground was much faster than he’s used to but he coped admirably and is sure to appreciate the little more dig in today’s ground, while another strong gallop seems likely.

The handicapper stepped in after that facile success, raising him 12lb to a new mark of 113, but that’s still 10lb below his highest winning mark over fences – achieved when beating off 13 rivals in the 2017 Sussex National – and he’s on the same mark as when last successful at Fakenham in March. He’s arguably in even better form now.

Kilmurvy, his nearest rival in the betting, ended a long losing run on his latest outing in July, but he’s now 6lb higher in a tougher race. So a bigger danger to the selection may come from Irish Octave, who is 5-11 over fences and is best suited by good ground, albeit he was well held off today’s mark last time.
