Chelsea were tipped by loads of people to retain their title this season. However, defeat at The Hawthorns could see them eight points behind the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United at this early point of the season.

Jose Mourinho has seen the Blues held to a 2-2 draw against Swansea City before a 3-0 mauling at the Etihad Stadium. For all his protestations that the result was undeserved, there could have been more goals scored but for some smart goalkeeping from Asmir Begovic.

Chelsea now head to the Midlands hoping to kickstart their season against a West Brom team yet to find the net in 180 minutes of football, with a 3-0 home defeat against Manchester City being followed by a goalless draw at Vicarage Road.

Tony Pulis admitted after that beating by the Citizens that he should have packed out the midfield so it doesn’t take a genius to guess what the former Stoke and Palace boss will do in an attempt to claim a surprise victory.

Rickie Lambert is likely to lead the line, with Claudio Yacob required to do a job on Eden Hazard and it will be interesting to see the personnel in defence after Joleon Lescott and James Chester were both dropped for the Watford match.

Meanwhile, we should probably expect John Terry to return in central defence although the former England captain might be affected by the decision to hook him at the Etihad Stadium, while Branislav Ivanovic has not enjoyed a good start to the season either.

Cesc Fabregas is currently a square peg in a round hole, with too much expected of Eden Hazard to make this Chelsea team tick and that is why we have to go with the Baggies on the handicap market.
