Can Sunderland stay up this season? Quite possibly, although the bottom line is that they have lost nine of thirteen games on the road and things haven’t improved that much under Sam Allardyce.

The former West Ham boss will point to the fact that the Black Cats beat Manchester United a fortnight ago, having previously landed a point at Anfield after being two goals down.

However, that 2-2 draw owed much to Liverpool’s inability to kill the game off at 2-0 and a fan walkout distracted the home side to the extent that the Black Cats were able to nick a point.

Their last away trip saw Tottenham put them to the sword 4-1 and even a 4-2 victory at Swansea illustrated that Sunderland won’t keep a clean sheet at the Boleyn Ground.

Allardyce is pretty defensive of his time with West Ham and proudly points to how he improved fortunes at Upton Park, although Slaven Bilic has taken things to the next level.

The acquisition of Dimitri Payet has undoubtedly helped matters and the Frenchman was the star turn during Sunday’s 5-1 FA Cup win at Ewood Park.

He’s also the main reason that we can trust West Ham to claim three points in this match at a backable price.

West Ham haven’t lost at home since August and they might have struck gold with the loaning of Emmanuel Emenike who scored twice against Blackburn and will now go in search of his first Premier League goals.
