Cox and Adam Kirby also team up with LOUIE DE PALMA in the 6f handicap and the lightly-raced six-year-old should go close. Given that he’d been off since finishing second in the 2014 Richmond Stakes as a juvenile, he attracted a surprising amount of market support on his belated return to action in last month’s Victoria Cup. Sadly for his backers, he failed to pick up when asked during the race itself, suggesting the run was needed after all, although it didn’t help that he was drawn on the wrong side of the track and to his credit he was beaten only a shade over six lengths.

Clearly he retains plenty of ability and he should now be ready to pick up where he left off at two, with his handicap mark of 92 far from being unrealistic. He’s in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot later this month and he’d be an interesting contender there given he’s already won over that course and distance. But he’ll need to win before then and go up a few pounds to stand any chance of taking up that engagement and this looks a decent opportunity, back at the scene of his racecourse debut success.

Of his rivals, course and distance winner Silent Echo is feared most despite now being 5lb higher in the weights.
