Coventry City are surprisingly looking for a new manager after longtime boss Mark Robins was sacked on Thursday, with the club struggling in 17th in the Championship and only out of the relegation zone on goal difference.

The surprise is that Robins had been in charge since 2017 and had brought the team up through from League Two all the way to the Championship playoff final to get to the Premier League just 18 months ago.

Now the best betting sites have priced up the market for who might replace the stalwart, with a number of big names linked as the market opened. The likes of England interim manager Lee Carsley, former West Ham, Everton and Manchester United boss David Moyes and Chelsea legend Frank Lampard are all towards the top of the market, along with some veteran Championship managers. It was, however, Wycombe manager Matt Bloomfield who was the clear favourite to take over at the Ricoh Arena in the early going, but if reports are now to be believed, Frank Lampard is the overwhelming favourite.

Could Lee Carsley Be Ready For Club Management?

Lee Carsley appeared in the box seat to take on the England role that Gareth Southgate vacated after Euro 2024 following the good work he had done with England under-21s. However, after an ill-advised attempt at a funky formation he admitted the team practiced for half an hour led to a home defeat to Greece, he was always out of the running.

But a move into club management could be the perfect next step for an ambitious man, and given his history with Coventry City – he played 72 times for the club across two spells and had a couple of terms as caretaker manager too – it’s clear why betting apps think he is a strong contender.

Frank Lampard Could be Championship-Ready

Frank Lampard started his managerial career at Derby County in the Championship, so he is no stranger to the league, and he has been linked with many vacancies since leaving Chelsea in 2023 by numerous football betting sites. Perhaps roles just haven’t been right for him, while this could come at just the right time.

The best Apple Pay betting sites think there’s a good chance he could be of interest to the Coventry hierarchy, so it will be interesting to see if makes a return to the dugout.

Would David Moyes Step Down to Championship?

David Moyes made his name as a manager in the lower leagues with his success at Preston North End. However, since he took on the Everton job in 2002, he has not managed outside of the any top division, mainly the Premier League with a one-year spell at Real Sociedad as well.

Given his departure from West Ham in the summer, would he be willing to drop down a division for a sleeping giant like Coventry? It would certainly be a couple for the club, and new betting sites think he will at least be spoken to for the job.

Alex Neil a Proven Championship Name

Coventry could also look towards a slightly smaller name in search of someone who knows their way around the Championship, and that is certainly Alex Neil. The Scot has had spells with Norwich City, Sunderland, Stoke City and Preston in the league. It is no surprise that Trustly betting sites are linking him with the role in the early going.
