Tip 1 - 3:18 Salisbury - Arantes Nascimento
Although he’s 0-11 on flat, Arantes Nascimento can probably count himself pretty unlucky he didn’t win last year when he went 3232 over the course of a couple of months. His first foray on flat this year yielded a second place at Newmarket last month and stepping down to Class 5 today should only help. He won on all-weather in April, albeit over a furlong further, and also recorded four seconds in a row between December and February.

Tip 2 - 3:30 Southwell - Manowest
Cher Monsieur seems a fair favourite given the taking win over fences last time and the weight to be carried here, but I’m not sure odds-on is right. That means that Manowest could well be overpriced for the redoubtable pairing of Olly Murphy and Sean Bowen. Has disappointed plenty since winning at Worcester last May, but previous winning form in point to points suggest improvement could come from chasing. Trainer Murphy has a 26% win strike rate at Southwell and only sends this one runner today. Manowest could have been placed here handily enough on chase debut.

Tip 3 - 4:00 Southwell - Who’s Glen
It’s best to ignore Who’s Glen’s most recent run on the flat, when out the back in the Chester Plate. That was a huge ask and he didn’t exactly have a hard race once his chance was gone. He’s best judged on his two previous starts over hurdles, when second in a maiden at Sedgefield and third in a good handicap at Musselburgh. He’s got a few pounds to find on official ratings back in a maiden here, but he looked to be on the up when last seen over obstacles.

Tip 4 - 4:53 Salisbury - Morven
Morven looked rejuvenated after her spell off the track and looked a different horse to the one who finished the season last year. It looked like a hot race she was thrown into last time out, with the horse back in fourth that day improving their finishing position next time out. The extra distance could bring about a bit more improvement along with the step forward, along with improving for her season opening run. She could be on a handy mark here.

What is the Staking Plan and How Does a 1pt Win System Work?
We advise each bet as a win single or sometimes as an each way single. You can of course choose to combine the selections in a multiple bet, a Lucky 15 or a Yankee etc and that is a very popular way to follow the horses selected in this column daily.
A 1pt win per horse is advised in general and that means whatever your normal stake is for a bet is used as a point. For many this is £1 and for some this is £10 or more but it is totally relative to the individual and shouldn’t be more than you can afford to lose at any time.
For each way selections we advise a 0.5pt each way stake. So as with the win selections this would be a £1 total bet (50 pence each way) or a £10 total bet (£5 each way).
