Alan Pardew is proving himself to be something of a saviour at Crystal Palace and the fans will be expecting another three points when Everton come to town. So will we!
These are changed days down at Selhurst Park, the Eagles enjoying something of a resurgence since the New Year with four wins and a draw from their opening five matches.
The side were languishing dangerously close to the relegation zone before the festive period, however the arrival of Alan Pardew from Newcastle United saw a dramatic change in the fortunes of the south London club. They actually started to win games.
Before Christmas, Palace had only won two Premier League matches since the start of the season. In January they have won two and drawn the other, a dramatic turnaround if ever there was one.
Indeed, two of those pre-Christmas wins were against Merseyside opposition, Liverpool being beaten 3-1 at Selhurst Park in November and Everton suffering a 3-2 defeat in the reverse fixture in September.
This match looks set to be more of the same, Everton failing to win at all since mid-December. The Toffees now sit level on points with Crystal Palace, however the Merseyside club are on a downward spiral with the Eagles moving in the opposite direction. We see no reason to believe that either side will change tracks on Saturday afternoon and the hosts will be three points better off at the final whistle.
One thing which Palace are managing under Pardew is scoring goals. They have managed no less than twelve in their last four outings and will be confident of finding a way past an Everton rearguard which has one of the worst defensive records in the top flight this season.
This match promises to be a closely fought encounter, a fact reflected by the odds across the bookmakers with Palace on offer at 19/10 and Everton up for grabs at 7/4.
Nevertheless, Pardew has restored confidence in his Eagles side and the Toffees will be in low spirits following their poor run of form. As such, we can’t see past a home win. There may not be a lot of goals, however we’ll be expecting a home win by a one goal margin.
