Old Trafford is the setting as Argentina face Portugal in what promises to be an action packed encounter tonight.
Two of the world’s football super-powers collide on Tuesday evening as World Cup runners-up Argentina clash with Ronaldo’s Portugal at Old Trafford in a friendly.
The Manchester United faithful have made no secret of their desire to see Cristiano Ronaldo make a move back to Old Trafford and here is a chance to see their hero in action at that very ground. Unfortunately he won’t be pulling on a Man United jersey on this occasion, but this clash will provide fans with an opportunity to see Ronaldo in action, along with a host of other stars such as Pepe, Tiago Mendes, Carlos Tevez, Lionel Messi and Gonzalo Higuain.
This mouthwatering clash is certain to dish up a feast of attacking football, Portuguese star Ronaldo eager to add to his 23 goals so far this season in all competitions. He will line up opposite arch-rival Lionel Messi and the rivalry between the two players has been well documented elsewhere. Needless to say, there may well be sparks flying when they go head-to-head this evening.
This isn’t a two-man show however and an end-to-end encounter is very much in order. Portugal enter this game on the back of successive wins against Denmark and Armenia, both Euro 2016 qualifying matches settled by goals from Ronaldo. The Portuguese will also be eager to put their disappointing World Cup campaign behind them as they look for a third back-to-back win over their South American rivals this evening.
Argentina look much the stronger side, at least on paper and they have improved under new coach Gerardo Martino, avenging their 1-0 World Cup final defeat to Germany with a comprehensive 4-2 win against the world champions in a friendly encounter a mere three weeks after the final itself.
The South Americans come into this match on the back of a 2-1 win against Croatia, Lionel Messi and Cristian Ansaldi contributing the goals on that occasion. Portugal will find the going tough against a team which has responded well to the challenges set by new coach Martino and we feel that this match can only end one way.
The Argentina fans will be going home happy!
