Aston Villa v Southampton betting tips – No goals for the hosts

Ronald Koeman will see his side clinch another three points tonight.

A Saints win at Villa Park? That's not something that would have been an odds-on price at the start of the season, especially with the visitors' star players gone.

Luke Shaw, Calum Chambers, Adam Lallana. These players were part of an exodus from St Mary’s before the start of the season. Difficult times ahead then for the south coast club? Not a bit of it! Southampton have made a blistering start to the season, the departure of star players during the summer posing manager Ronald Koeman a challenge which he has met head on.

It’s one thing to start the season well, however hands up who genuinely expected the Saints to be sitting second in the Premier League table at this stage in proceedings? 25 points have been won from the opening eleven league matches, an enviable record in anybody’s book and one which looks set to be added to in the West Midlands tonight.

This looks an extremely impressive record, however it hides the fact that the Saints have turned on the form even more of late, winning their last five outings and failing to triumph in just one of their last twelve matches in all competitions. Who then would oppose the Saints tonight? We’re certainly not, indeed we feel that Koeman’s side will leave with the points and a clean sheet in the bag.

The visitors start this match at a reasonable 3/4 with Paddy Power, however additional value can be had with a Southampton win-to-nil at odds of 9/5 with Betway, a wager which would have paid out in the Saints’ last four encounters.

Southampton can boast a solid defence in the form of Ryan Bertrand and Toby Alderweireld, both of who are joining forces with Nathaniel Clyne and Jose Fonte to keep at bay a Villa attack who have mustered up a mere five goals in their last eleven games, just three of these occurring at Villa Park.

With the hosts sitting scarily close to the relegation zone, this could prove to be a one-sided affair. Villa can’t seem to figure out where the opposition’s goal is situated and until they figure it out, they will continue to struggle at the bottom end of the table. The answers won’t be there tonight. Back a Saints win-to-nil. We are.
