Bayern Munich v CSKA Moscow – Russians will exit the competition tonight

Bayern will finish the group stage on a high

Bayern could relax tonight, safe in the knowledge that they are through to the last sixteen. We all know they won't do that!

A win for CSKA Moscow could be enough to knock Manchester City out of the Champions League, however Bayern Munich will be eager to finish on a high and put their recent defeat by City behind them.

Pellegrini’s side could easily pose a massive threat to the Bundesliga champions in the competition’s later stages, however Bayern are unlikely to let this fact influence their display this evening and a strong line-up is expected from the German side.

Top spot in the group was sealed some weeks ago, however the hosts won’t be wanting to go through to the knockout stages on the back of two back-to-back defeats so a win is expected, leaving it up to Roma and Manchester City to fight it out for second spot.

Pep Guardiola’s side will be facing a CSKA Moscow side who will be in high spirits knowing that they can still qualify for the last sixteen despite being bottom of the group. The Russian side lost their opening match 5-1 against Roma and many expected that they would be out of sight at the bottom at this stage.

Nevertheless, Moscow’s other game on the road provided a surprise 2-1 defeat at Manchester City at a time when the English champions were experiencing a dip in form.

This demonstrated how dangerous the Russian side can be and Bayern will be afford them all the respect that they deserve as they look to finish on 15 points out of a possible 18.

Bayern’s form in the group stages has been excellent as would be expected, that is apart from their defeat to Manchester City and their record at home has been superb, the Bundesliga champions winning all their matches on home soil since the humiliating 4-0 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League last season.

We don’t anticipate that record coming under too much pressure this evening and it may be a good chance for the home side to get a few goals into the bargain.
