Fortunes have changed at St Andrews since Gary Rowett took charge and the West Midlands side will be eager to continue their fine form when they play host to Norwich City on Saturday afternoon.
The Blues are in fine fettle under the charge of Rowett, however things started so differently at the start of the season. Just two league wins in the opening three months of the season saw the side firmly in the relegation zone and only a dramatic change of fortune could save them.
Enter Gary Rowett. Since then, Birmingham have soared into the top half of the table. Ok so they are still eleven points adrift of the play-offs, however this is a far cry from their position just two months ago and on current form they could easily find themselves in the top six come the end of the season.
Norwich haven’t been having such a good season of late, losing two of their last four Championship matches. Indeed, it is a surprise to see them start this match as favourites at 5/4. We certainly can’t back the Canaries with any confidence whatsoever and with Birmingham in the ascendancy at the moment we have no hesitation whatsoever backing the home side on this occasion, despite them being very much the underdogs.
With nine goals conceded in their last five outings, the visitors are far from solid at the back, however they have been much more impressive up front, a 6-1 thrashing of Millwall on Boxing Day testament to their scoring prowess.
Nevertheless, Birmingham will be desperate to continue their climb up the league table and they will provide a tough obstacle for the Canaries to overcome. There will certainly be goals from both sides, Birmingham being involved in three games this month with over three goals in each and all of Norwich City’s last three outings involving eleven goals in total. As such we’ll be going for over 2.5 goals on Saturday afternoon at St Andrews.
