Middlesbrough are showing the sort of form which will surely fire them into the Premier League at the end of the season. Their case will be strengthened when they travel to St Andrews tonight.
Boro are cruising in the Championship, there is no doubt about that. Indeed, they are unbeaten in the league since mid December and will extend their unbeaten run tonight when they face a Birmingham City side which has failed to register a single win in their last five Championship outings.
The Blues started their campaign in dreadful fashion and looked serious candidates for relegation to League One, even at the early stages of the season. Then Gary Rowett turned up. Since his appointment as manager in late October, the side’s fortunes have improved and with some excellent results in the bag, the Blues started to climb to a more comfortable mid-table position. There they still sit, although with a downturn in form of late, they certainly won’t be threatening the play-off places.
With Middlesbrough now 2/1 favourites for automatic promotion, the home side will be expected to struggle this evening. Boro’s star striker Enrique Garcia Martinez has found the back of the net nine times this season, including the second goal against Manchester City at the Etihad in the FA Cup fourth round. He will be an absolute nuisance for City’s rearguard and we’ll be backing him at 2/1 with Bet365 to score any time tonight.
This should prove to be a relatively straightforward win for Boro. A 2-0 defeat to Arsenal in the FA Cup fifth round means that the Teessiders can now concentrate purely on automatic promotion back to the top flight and they will take a huge step towards that in the Midlands this evening.
