Blackburn are falling away from the play-off places and will be hopeful of an FA Cup win against Premier League side Swansea on Saturday afternoon.
Such a result would perhaps salvage something from Blackburn’s season, however the Swans will be in no mood for defeat following their hammering in the Premier League by Chelsea last weekend.
Swansea will continue to struggle in the absence of Wilfried Bony and the huge hole left by his recent departure was only too apparent at the weekend. This fourth round clash will see a group of somewhat make-shift forwards attempt to fill the gap, Garry Monk likely to ring the changes ahead of the Ewood Park match.
Swansea aren’t at their best on the road this season with only three away wins in the top flight so far and with Blackburn losing hope in their promotion aspirations, they could be looking at this match as a chance to get something from their disappointing season.
Rovers’ star player this term has been Rudy Gestede, however with twelve goals under his belt this season he has attracted the interest of Crystal Palace and looks set to depart for Selhurst Park over the next few days, on-loan Jordan Rhodes left with the task of banging in the goals.
Goals there will certainly be and we would be surprised if the home side weren’t involved in scoring one or two. The hosts have reached the finals of this competition six times, however that was over 100 years ago and they will be looking to emulate their best result of recent years when they reached the semi-finals in 2007.
Nevertheless, even without that man Wilfried Bony, Swansea will just edge this contest. They will maybe rest some of their key players but they have sufficient strength in depth to overcome any resistance provided by the Championship outfit.
Bafetimbi Gomis was the star against Tranmere Rovers in the previous round and we fancy him to add to his tally for the season with an anytime goal in this clash.
