Newcastle United can get themselves back onto the winning trail when they make the trip to Turf Moor on Tuesday evening.
Is it really just two months since Magpies supporters were calling for the head of their manager? Newcastle had at this point failed to record a single victory in any of their previous eight top flight matches with the bookmakers slashing the odds on Pardew’s dismissal.
Then the unthinkable happened. Newcastle actually started winning, in fact they went on to win their next six games in succession, surging up the Premier League table and knocking Manchester City out of the League Cup on the way. All of a sudden the future was starting to look rather bright.
This excellent winning run had to end at some point and so it proved when the Magpies travelled to Upton Park on Saturday, Aaron Cresswell scoring a second-half goal which proved to be the winner for West Ham.
Pardew will be determined to bounce back from that defeat with a win against strugglers Burnley and his side will be confident that they can get something from their troubles. Nevertheless things will be close and the bookies seem to be having some trouble separating the sides, Newcastle starting very slight favourites at 17/10 with Bet365, the home side up for grabs at 19/10 with BetVictor and a draw available at 12/5.
Burnley seem to be starting to find their feet in the Premier League. They appeared to be set for an immediate return to the Championship, however Sean Dyche has steered them in the right direction at last following a dismal start to their campaign which saw them clinch a mere four points from their first eight matches.
They will be in high spirits coming into this match, however it will be a very close call and we’re having a somewhat hard time deciding on a winner. The hosts could avoid defeat in this match, however their recent points have been won against teams which are out of form so I would be wary of delving into this market.
Instead, we’re going to back under 2.5 goals at 3/4 with Ladbrokes. All but one of Newcastle United’s last seven games have fallen below this mark, as have four of Burnley’s last six outings. This looks set to be another low scoring clash with both sides expected to keep it tight. Let’s face it, a point each would be welcomed by both!
