Can the Clarets put their league woes behind them and record a surprise win over Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup this evening? We think not!
Burnley are still sitting in the Premier League bottom three and will be eager to lift their spirits with a win tonight against a Tottenham Hotspur side who put five past Premier League leaders Chelsea last time out.
Burnley manager Sean Dyche will be ringing the changes ahead of this third round FA Cup tie. He will be without the services of Jason Shakell in defence following a calf injury sustained in the 3-3 draw with Newcastle last week. Replacement defender Kevin Long will also be absent thanks to what looks like a serious injury to his knee from the same match.
Tottenham will be in confident mood following their dramatic 5-3 victory over London rivals Chelsea last week, Harry Kane scoring twice to help his side to a much-needced win. Spurs now sit comfortably in fifth position in the Premier League table and manager Pochettino will be confident that his side can progress to the next round of this competition against a rather toothless Burnley side.
Spurs unsurprisingly start this match as firm favourites, Paddy Power offering a decent 17/20 for an away win. This in itself would seem an extremely attractive price, however added value can be had by backing an away win with Harry Kane getting onto the scoresheet at 11/8.
Despite the home side suffering some poor results this season, they have managed to get onto the scoresheet in all but three matches since the end of September and we’ll be backing this trend to continue. They scored three against Newcastle United last week and two against Manchester City in their previous match, therefore we feel that they can score against a Tottenham side who have been less than consistent in defence this season.
Either way, Tottenham will easily dominate this match. They have superior strength in depth and will be in high spirits following their excellent home win against title favourites Chelsea. As such we’ll be backing a Spurs win with both teams to score at 37/13 with 888sport.
