New Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew is aiming to lift his side to new heights in the top flight, however he may struggle to keep them in the Premier League.
Pardew has signed a three and a half year contract at Selhurst Park, thus completing his move from Newcastle United and he will be desperate to start his tenure by lifting the Eagles further from the relegation zone.
Pardew is optimistic about his new appointment, stating that he is thrilled to be involved with the South London club.
“I am absolutely delighted to be the new manager of Crystal Palace,” Pardew stated.
“Everyone knows of my history here, what’s important now is to move the club to the next level. I believe with the backing of the chairman Steve and the board, I can achieve that and create some new exciting history for the club.”
Nevertheless he will have a huge task on his hands to achieve such a feat and the bookies remain pessimistic about his chances of even keeping the side in the top flight at the end of the season.
Palace sit dangerously close to the relegation zone following eight winless matches in the Premier League and Coral offer 13/8 for the side to be relegated to the Championship. Indeed, only Burnley ( 8/15 ) and Leicester City ( 4/6 ) remain ahead of the Eagles in the relegation betting market.
Nevertheless, Ladbrokes remain slightly more optimistic about their chances of staying up, with 4/6 up for grabs should the Selhurst Park side manage another season in the top flight.
