Cardiff v Reading betting tips – Points look set to be shared in South Wales

Will this mid-table scrap offer anything in the way of excitement?

Cardiff City haven't responded well to their relegation from the Premier League at the end of last season. Can they find some consistency against a Reading side who also appear to have lost their way?

This mid-table clash between Cardiff City and Reading on Friday evening has ‘draw’ written all over it. Cardiff appear to have settled for a mid-table position, happy in the thought that they are clear of the relegation zone and unlikely to challenge for a return back to the top flight, at least not this season.

Reading appear to have similar thoughts of their own, and the inconsistency of both sides may make this match a damp squib. Nevertheless, Cardiff City have shown a bit of spark in their recent outings, not least their 3-1 triumph over Leeds earlier this month and 2-1 defeat of a Nottingham Forest side who were expected to be challenging for honours at the start of the season.

Nevertheless, since that defeat of Leeds the side have failed to get on the scoresheet, suffering a 3-0 defeat to struggling Bolton Wanderers prior to being held to a 0-0 stalemate with second-bottom club Birmingham City. Cardiff’s have been a different animal at home however, winning six of their nine Championship matches on home turf and drawing one, therefore home advantage will almost certainly play a part in separating these two teams on Friday evening.

As such, the hosts start this match as slight favourites, William Hill offering 5/4 for a home win, a draw up for grabs at 5/2 with BetVictor and a Reading victory available at 13/5 with the same firm.

Reading come into this match on the back of a 1-0 home defeat to Charlton Athletic prior to the international break, however a 3-0 win over Championship new boys Rotherham United the previous week shows that they are indeed capable of finding the back of the net on occasion.  With Cardiff City managing at least one goal in all but seven of their twenty matches in all competitions this season, we feel that there is value in backing both teams to score at 3/4 with Ladbrokes.

Either way, this is a match which screams ‘draw’, and as such we’ll be backing such an outcome at 5/2 with BetVictor.
