The Champions League is back this week and with just sixteen teams left in the competition, eight will be in action on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, including favourite Bayern Munich.
Bayern are running away with the Bundesliga this season and the bookmakers believe that they can emulate this with success in the Champions League. Pep Guardiola’s side are favourites at 11/4 to become European champions and they will take a step further to this goal when they travel to Ukraine where they go head-to-head with Donetsk in the first leg tie.
Premier League title favourites Chelsea face PSG on Tuesday evening for the second successive season, the Blues high in the outright betting market at 15/2 to repeat their success of 2012. Nevertheless, the French champions will provide them with a stern test, however Chelsea are a superior side to that of last year when they lost the first leg in Paris 3-1 and will be expected to take an advantage back to Stamford Bridge.
The action continues on Wednesday evening with another favourite, Real Madrid clashing with FC Schalke. There will be few who could forget the thrilling comeback by Real in last season’s final when they managed a late equaliser against arch city rivals Atletico to force extra time and a subsequent three goals. William Hill are going 3/1 for the La Liga side to manage back-to-back success in the competition this time around.
The final match is between two sides who are both at the wrong end of the betting market. FC Basel host FC Porto on Wednesday evening and the betting is that whoever wins this clash won’t last in the competition beyond the following round.
