Jose Mourinho will be expecting a positive reaction from his players following their embarrassing 4-2 defeat to League One side Bradford City in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday. So will we.
Indeed, Chelsea were favourites to win the first leg of this Capital One Cup tie at Anfield last week and at 11/10 they looked well priced to clinch the required win following their 5-0 hammering of Swansea City in their previous Premier League outing.
Liverpool had been far from impressive coming into that tie and as such looked destined to suffer a home defeat.
Nevertheless, Mourinho’s side were somewhat disappointing and struggled against the ferocious Liverpool attack, Raheem Sterling perhaps considering himself unlucky not to have scored more than once.
Chelsea will have breathed a sigh of relief at the final whistle and will be desperate to amend for that poor performance at Stamford Bridge tomorrow evening as well as their embarrassment in the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon.
The Blues start this match as 4/7 favourites, however there are less punters rushing to back the hosts this time around thanks to their poor performances of late. Indeed, a large amount of money is heading towards Liverpool to triumph in ninety minutes at odds of 21/4 at 888sport, a rather low price considering the disappointing Reds performance at Bolton at the weekend.
Steven Gerrard and his side are struggling against all but the weakest defence this season and they will likely be put to the sword at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea will not be wanting a repeat of Saturday’s result and the line-up may prove completely different to that which failed utterly against Bradford.
What is certain is that Chelsea will definitely not sit back should they take an early lead. Mourinho will be demanding a thorough and clinical performance this time around and we expect the home side to start very much on the offensive with an early goal. As such we’ll be backing Chelsea to be leading at half time and full time at 29/20 with BetVictor, especially with the Blues leading in all but two of their last twelve games.
