Jose Mourinho’s team to remain on course for Premier League title by beating Spurs
Chelsea have the chance to stretch their lead at the top of the Premier League to seven points on Saturday, with the Blues clashing with London rivals Tottenham at Stamford Bridge this weekend.
Mourinho continues to claim that Manchester City have this season’s title to lose, although Manuel Pellegrini’s team will be a full nine points behind their title rivals if Chelsea manage to beat Spurs and you would have to say this is a likely outcome.
The Blues have won twelve of their fourteen matches at the Bridge this term, with West Ham and West Brom the only sides to have stopped them in their tracks. However, when it comes to facing the top teams at home, there has been only one winner.
Mourinho famously spoke off the record to declare his squad was short of a goalscorer, something that will be remedied in the summer, although Andre Schurrle stepped up to the plate at Craven Cottage last weekend and Eden Hazard has been full of goals this term.
Then there’s Chelsea’s defensive record this term. The Blues have recently ground out victories without conceding against Stoke, Newcastle and Everton, with a similar outcome set to happen when Tottenham pay them a visit.
Spurs took a while to find the breakthrough against Cardiff last weekend and were unable to score against Norwich in their previous away game, with Tim Sherwood’s side likely to find it difficult to get past the likes of John Terry and Gary Cahill.
Sherwood will set up his team to get at least a point from this match although games are running out if they are to claim a place in the top four of the Premier League this season, with Roberto Soldado struggling for form in front of goal.
