Chelsea have been largely unstoppable this season and apart from their defeat against Newcastle United, we find it hard to see anyone else stopping them. West Ham certainly won't!
Chelsea welcome their East London rivals to Stamford Bridge for a Boxing Day clash, the home side looking to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League.
Jose Mourinho’s side enjoy a three point lead over Manchester City as we head into Christmas, the Blues managing 42 points from their 17 matches to date this season. Their one and only defeat across all competitions was a surprise loss to Newcastle United, however apart from that they have been in tremendous form. Since that unexpected defeat, they have triumphed in four successive matches with the latest being a defeat of Stoke City at the weekend.
They surged to the top of the table early in the season and look set to consolidate their position with a home win against the Hammers on Boxing Day, Coral offering best odds of 4/11 for the Blues to clinch another three points.
We expect Mourinho’s side to sweep past the Hammers on Friday however it won’t exactly be plain sailing, the Hammers enjoying a great start to their own season and currently sitting in fourth place in the Premier League table. The Hammers weren’t expected to be flying so high in the table at this stage of proceedings, however they will be brought down to earth on Boxing Day.
Chelsea’s home form has been nothing short of spectacular, the Blues scoring twenty goals with just three conceded, therefore we can’t go against Mourinho’s side in this match. Nevertheless, we’ll be looking past the match betting market and seeking some decent value.
Chelsea have managed no less than five clean sheets in their previous six top flight games and we fancy them to maintain this record on Boxing Day, Sky Bet offering 6/5 for a Blues win-to-nil. The side have demonstrated how difficult they are to break down at Stamford Bridge and despite the Hammers scoring aplenty, they will need to be at their best to break down a particularly solid home defence.
We’ll also be looking at the score/win market with Eden Hazard emerging as a favourable option. The Belgian has scored three times in his last five outings and will pose the visitors’ defence no end of problems. As such, we fully expect him to score at some point in a Chelsea victory, Boylesports offering 5/4 for Hazard to score and Chelsea to clinch the three points.
Either way, we’ll be favouring a Blues win-to-nil. Chelsea have been unstoppable at home and have been successful in keeping the goals out so far.
