Southampton's dramatic decline was halted at the weekend with an impressive 3-0 win against Everton at the weekend and they will be in confident spirits when they visit Selhurst Park on Friday evening.
Southampton weren’t exactly expected to set the Premier League alight, however they started their season with a bang. Things were looking so good for the Saints as they sat second in the league table. It couldn’t last however and the wheels came off in rather dramatic fashion.
A loss to League One side Sheffield United in the Capital One Cup saw Southampton’s season hit a huge low, however a return to form saw them trounce Everton to the tune of 3-0 and they can claw themselves further up the table with a win in south London on Boxing Day.
The Saints have shown what they are capable of and they will be full of renewed confidence heading into this match. Crystal Palace have been struggling with a mere one win from their last eleven outings and they have suffered home defeats to Aston Villa and Sunderland so the Eagles are there for the taking on Friday. Southampton can end their four-match losing run on the road and they are attractively priced to do so with 5/4 up for grabs at William Hill.
Graziano Pelle has been returning to the scoresheet of late and the Italian will be hopeful of adding to his tally against an Eagles team which has one of the Premier League’s worst defences this season. Pelle scored his second goal in three games on Saturday against the Toffees and he looks excellent value on the anytime goalscorer market with 9/5 available at BetVictor.
Southampton have certainly re-discovered how to get onto the goal trail and we fancy them to manage more than one on this occasion. Palace have been no mugs however and will make life hard for the visitors with a goal of their own. Nevertheless, Southampton will dominate this match and the points will be heading to the south coast on Boxing Day.
