FA Cup fifth round betting preview – Saturday 14th february

Daniel Sturridge will feature in the FA Cup goals this weekend

The FA Cup fifth round is nearly upon us and this weekend promises much in the way of action with eight matches spread over three days.

Things are hotting up in this season’s FA Cup and Arsenal remain 5/2 favourites to go all the way in the competition. The action starts on Saturday lunchtime when West Brom host West Ham at the Hawthorns. The Baggies will be in high spirits following their 2-0 defeat of Swansea City on Wednesday evening and will pose a few problems for the East London side.

Nevertheless, the Hammers have been enjoying a relatively successful season and we feel that they will manage to extend their unbeaten run to three following draws with Southampton and Manchester United. Either way, we’re predicting that the Hammers will win this match by a single goal on Saturday.

Our prediction: West Brom 0  West Ham 1

Blackburn knocked Premier League side Swansea City out of this competition in the last round and they will be hopeful of achieving another top flight scalp on Saturday when they welcome Stoke City to Ewood Park.

The Potters have been enjoying some excellent results of late however and despite the 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Manchester City on Wednesday evening, we feel that they will completely dominate this encounter.

Our predictions: Blackburn Rovers 1  Stoke City 3

A high-flying Derby County face an inconsistent Reading side on Saturday afternoon and with the Rams suffering just one defeat since Christmas, we predict that this will prove to be a one-sided affair. Ok so the hosts will be concentrating on automatic promotion to the Premier League, they possess a squad strong enough to battle on more than one front.

Having said that, Derby have conceded three goals in their last two outings, not a huge amount perhaps but enough to suggest that Reading can perhaps get their name onto the scoresheet at some point.

Our predictions: Derby County 2  Reading 1

The final clash on Saturday sees Liverpool travel to Selhurst Park to face an improving Crystal Palace side. Indeed, both of these sides have been on the ascendancy of late and a hard fought battle is predicted.

Alan Pardew has worked wonders with the Eagles since his arrival from Newcastle, however Liverpool appear to have turned the corner as illustrated by their hard fought 3-2 win over top-four hopefuls Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday evening.

Our predictions: Crystal palace 1  Liverpool 2
