Luis Suarez struggling for fitness and England should enjoy a routine win against Uruguayans
It was doom and gloom on Saturday night as England lost 2-1 against Italy, although the Three Lions certainly had more positives than negatives in Manaus.
The bottom line is that victory against Uruguay on Thursday will boost England’s chances of reaching the last sixteen of the competition and they would face one of the teams in Group C which isn’t a bad thing compared to other sections.
Ladbrokes and William Hill are the remaining two firms to offer 13/10 about a Three Lions win, with other bookies keen to shorten England’s price after the two teams’ respective performances on Saturday.
Uruguay lost 3-1 against Costa Rica and it appears that Luis Suarez is struggling to be fit for Thursday’s game after failing to appear in his country’s first game.
Daniel Sturridge rates as a good bet to score first, having found the net against the Azzurri with a masterful strike from a Wayne Rooney cross.
“We played very good football, we were exciting, we looked great going forward, we did defend well,” he said. “It was just one of those nights. Sometimes you don’t get the breaks and those fine inches, where the keeper makes a save or a rebound doesn’t go to you. There are no excuses, we played well – we just didn’t get the result.
“I’m disappointed and heartbroken because I do feel we deserved something out of the game,” the 24-year-old said. “But there are two big games. I’m positive, I have got a positive attitude, I’m going into them excited. I’m going into the games knowing we can get something out of them.
“Regardless of the opposition, regardless of the other results, we would have gone into the next game with the same mentality, which is to win anyway.”
Uruguay are out to 5/2 and it appears they are heavily reliant on Suarez, with the rest of the team not producing a great deal against the Costa Ricans after taking the lead from the penalty spot.
With the attacking penetration of Raheem Sterling and Danny Welbeck, one can be reasonably confident that it will be job done for England who will make sure the defensive frailties against the Italians no longer exist.
Betfred’s 3/1 about an England win to nil looks pretty good, especially if Suarez misses out and this match could be a walk in the park.
