Gus Poyet has seen some big backing in the betting market to be the next manager to leave his post in the Premier League.
Sunderland’s last fifteen Premier League matches have returned a mere two wins and Poyet is feeling under ever greater pressure. Indeed, he didn’t exactly help his cause by accusing some supporters of “living in the past” following criticisms of his tactics.
The Black Cats’ 2-0 defeat to League One side Bradford City in the FA Cup last weekend prompted some fans to chant “Gustavo Poyet, it is always our fault”. The Uruguayan then turned on reporters claiming they were partly responsible,
“The problem is you, not me,” he declared.
“I’m not going to get involved any more. If we close Sunderland, if we put a China wall around the city it would be fantastic. Now when we let you in and you get out and say what you want, we’ve got a problem.”
“I invite every Sunderland fan and people around the club not to listen to any of you – only to me.”
Whoever is actually to blame, Coral have gone as low as 9/4 for Poyet to be the next manager to be dismissed, only Sam Allardyce and Nigel Pearson on shorter odds.
