Leicester sit firmly at the bottom of the Premier League table and nothing short of a dramatic turnaround can help them extend their stay in the top flight for another season. Such a turnaround could be on the cards when Aston Villa come to town on Saturday.
Three points separate Leicester City from safety and despite the Foxes being unbeaten in their last three outings, they will need to be at their very best to win the points against a determined Villa side.
Nevertheless, the East Midlands side will be in high spirits following some much improved performance of late, these including a 1-0 away win at Hull and an excellent 2-2 draw with Liverpool. Newcastle were put to the sword to the tune of 1-0 in the FA Cup last weekend and Nigel Pearson will be confident that a much-needed victory can be achieved on Saturday afternoon.
Aston Villa are having their problems this season with an inability to score goals. Indeed, a mere eleven goals have been scored in 20 Premier League matches, a record which is by far the worst in the top flight. Their last triumph was against this weekend’s opponents, however since that 2-1 win they have scored a solitary goal and the return of Christian Benteke is eagerly awaited by the Villa faithful.
Aston Villa may be sitting in what appears to be the safety of a mid-table position, however given the crowded nature of the table they are a mere five points away from the drop zone and a continued inability to find the back of the net could see them dragged into the relegation dog-fight.
This match screams out ‘goal-less draw’, however Leicester have turned things around somewhat of late and we feel that they can pull something out of the bag on Saturday, probably thanks to the only goal of the match.
With such pessimism for a less-than-thrilling low-scoring encounter, we’ll be backing under 1.5 goals this weekend, up for grabs at 2/1 with William Hill. Neither side have exactly been scoring for fun, however Leicester do have the edge at present and can punish the Villa defence and we’ll be looking at Leicester striker Leonardo to provide them with a winner this weekend.
