Liverpool's season hasn't exactly been a happy one so far and things look set to get worse when they welcome Chelsea to Anfield on Tuesday evening for a Capital One Cup clash.
Brendan Rodgers’ side have turned things around recently, opening the year with a 2-2 draw with Leicester City and following this up with a 2-1 win at AFC Wimbledon and two successive Premier League victories against Sunderland and Aston Villa. As such they will be in high spirits coming into this Capital One Cup match, however Chelsea will be in no mood for such confidence and will be looking to put the home side to the sword on Merseyside.
The west London side are sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League, a 5-0 win at Swansea coupled with a 2-0 defeat for Manchester City putting them five points clear after 22 matches. Hardly surprising then that the visitors start this match as firm 6/5 favourites at BetVictor to proceed through to the finals of the competition with a win in ninety minutes.
Since their New Year’s Day defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea have responded in tremendous fashion with three straight wins, scoring ten goals without reply. This match may not be quite as one-sided as many may predict, however we feel that Mourinho’s side will prove strong enough to overcome anything that Liverpool can throw at them.
Saturday’s 5-0 demolition of Swansea at the Liberty Stadium was a comprehensive display, the visitors scoring four times in the opening 36 minutes and as such they will be in extremely high spirits coming into this clash. The man to watch is undoubtedly Diego Costa and Mourinho will certainly be featuring the Spanish international in this encounter. Costa has scored four goals in his last four outings and he can score again in this clash to send his side well on their way to the Capital One Cup finals.
This may not be the walkover that Chelsea have enjoyed in their last three matches, however for us the most obvious bet is Diego Costa to score in a Chelsea win.
