The Reds’ offensive approach should make for an entertaining match between City and Liverpool
We enjoyed a couple of humdingers between these teams last season as they battled it out for the Premier League title.
The match at the Etihad Stadium resulted in a 2-1 win for City after Liverpool had taken an early lead, while the reverse fixture saw the Reds get their revenge with an entertaining 3-2 victory.
So what should we expect on Monday night? More of the same, with Manchester City smartening up their act at Newcastle United to win 2-0 following a dismal performance in the Community Shield against Arsenal.
Liverpool give every indication that they will be full of goals again, although some shoddy defending against Southampton also illustrated that Brendan Rodgers’ team might not keep too many clean sheets this term.
Boylesports go 8/11 about Over 2.5 Goals in this match and one feels that is a better bet than Manchester City at a similar price, even if Manuel Pellegrini’s side looked to be purring quite nicely at St James’ Park.
Sergio Aguero should return to the starting line-up for this match and it will be a formidable attacking five or six lining up against Liverpool, with David Silva and Yaya Toure capable of making things tick in midfield.
Boylesports go 20/23 about a home win and City claimed victory in seventeen of their nineteen encounters at the Etihad last term, with Chelsea the only team to leave with the points.
Liverpool are as big as 16/5 with Ladbrokes to claim victory, with the Reds warming up with a 2-1 win against the Saints which helped them enjoy a winning start.
Raheem Sterling looks set to enjoy an even better season in a red shirt, while Daniel Sturridge has marked himself out as a leading striker in the Premier League and he can be backed at 7/1 with Coral to claim the first goal.
Another 2-1 win for City can’t be ruled out at 8/1 with Ladbrokes, while a 3-2 victory for the home side is a 22/1 chance with bet365 and both teams will be going on the offensive from kick-off.
