Can we trust Manchester City to beat Swansea on Saturday? Perhaps not, however Sergio Aguero looks a safe bet to score against the Welsh side at the Etihad Stadium.
Manchester City are sitting third in the Premier League table, however they haven’t enjoyed the blistering start to the season which many had predicted. Despite picking up one more point than they had managed at this stage of last season’s title winning campaign, few could argue with any conviction that the side have performed well so far.
They have been dreadful in the Champions League, managing a mere two points from their opening four games and look set to make an early departure from that competition. They exited the Capital One Cup at the hands of Newcastle United and it’s of no relevance that they are a point ahead of their corresponding position last season when they are some eight points adrift of league leaders Chelsea.
This season is already looking set to be a barren one for the trophy cabinet and Manuel Pellegrini may well be a worried man. Ok so he did lead the side to the Premier League title last season, however that is in the past and the danger for the Argentinian is that Man City may struggle this season in the face of fiercer competition.
Indeed, since Pellegrini’s arrival, few of his star players have made any progress and Yaya Toure is a shadow of his former self this term. The Ivorian looks completely disinterested and much is being left to Sergio Aguero. He alone is largely responsible for City’s points total this term, the Argentinian scoring 12 goals in his eleven top flight outings, including all but one of the last nine in the Premier League.
Whether he can lift his side to a win over Swansea City this weekend remains questionable, however he will almost certainly manage to get onto the goalsheet, Bet365 offering 3/1 for the 26-year-old to score the opening goal. He’s up for grabs at 3/4 at ladbrokes to score anytime and a reasonable 11/10 at Betfred to score in a home win on Saturday.
The key question is whether City are backable to win this match at an odds-on price of 2/5. We feel that this price is too low and holds little interest to us. City have been weak in defence, conceding twice to CSKA Moscow, Newcastle United, QPR, West Ham and again to CSKA. Swansea could be held to be at least equal to any of these sides and are a mere three points adrift of City coming into this match so we feel that they shouldn’t be opposed on this occasion. They are even worthy of consideration for a victory at 8/1 with Betfred or a draw at 17/4 with Stan James.
