We're heading north of the border for our BT Sport televised match tonight as SPL strugglers St Mirren make the short journey to Firhill for a clash with Partick Thistle.
Glasgow’s third club are unlikely to manage a place in the top three at the end of the season and as things stand they are comfortably above the relegation zone. That isn’t to say that their season is meaningless however and a solid display will be expected from Alan Archibald’s side in the first Scottish Premier League clash of the weekend.
The Jags sit 9th in the Scottish top flight, some eight points adrift of the top half of the table and their season so far has been one of inconsistency. Nevertheless, their last two outings have provided us with a glimpse of what they are capable of, coming from behind at Kilmarnock’s Rugby Park last weekend to draw 2-2 and thrashing Hamilton Academical to the tune of 5-0 the previous week.
Indeed, with nine goals from their last four matches, we’ll be expecting the hosts to dominate against a St Mirren side who are increasingly looking candidates for relegation.
The visitors have had a dire season to date and they sit second bottom of the table. They may be four points clear of Ross County, however the Highland club have two games in hand and things need to improve drastically for Gary Teale’s men.
We doubt there will be any improvement at Firhill however. The Buddies have managed just one win this year so far, this being a 2-1 victory over bottom club Ross County. They will certainly struggle against a Partick side which appears to be scoring for fun since the new year.
That’s not to say that we’re expecting anything akin to a goal-fest in north Glasgow. The reverse fixture in Paisley earlier in the season saw the Jags finish as 1-0 winners and this match looks likely to go a similar way. As such, we’ll be going for under 2.5 goals tonight.
Kris Doolan has been in tremendous form since the turn of the year and put four past a hapless Hamilton Academical side last weekend. At 9/5 with BetVictor he represents excellent value on the Anytime Goalscorer market in this match and we’ll be grabbing this price with both hands.
The most obvious bet for us however is a simple home win. The Jags are in the ascendancy at the moment and will utterly dominate against a Buddies side who will be getting increasingly worried.
