PSG v Chelsea betting tips – Blues will avoid defeat in Paris

Chelsea face PSG for the second successive season

A first-leg defeat in the corresponding fixture last year is a thing of the past and Chelsea will be looking for a very different outcome this time around

Chelsea faced the French champions in the Champions League quarter-finals last season, however despite losing in Paris in the first leg, the Blues scraped through to the semi-finals thanks to the ‘Away Goals’ rule.

PSG won the home leg 3-1, however Eden Hazard salvaged Chelsea’s hopes with a 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge in the second leg. Jose Mourinho would be relatively happy with such an outcome, although he will undoubtedly be looking for a smoother passage to the next round, starting with an away win tomorrow.

One thing is obvious. Chelsea are a far better side than the one which lost in Paris last year. Indeed, the Blues have suffered defeat in just three outings this season and have yet to lose in the Champions League. Ok so their French opponents have remained unbeaten in Ligue 1 at home, however should any side inflict their first home defeat of the season it must surely be Chelsea and as such we’ll be backing them at 9/5 with Betfred to win this first leg match.

Diego Costa will be a welcome returnee for the visitors and we won’t be too surprised if he gets his name onto the scoresheet. His form may have tailed off somewhat of late but he is still scoring regularly with five goals in his last eight appearances and we’ll be looking at the former Atletico Madrid marksman to score anytime at 21/10 with Ladbrokes.

PSG have Zlatan Ibrahimovic however and we won’t be overlooking the Swede in the anytime goalscorer market. He has scored in all but one of his last four outings and there is plenty of value in the 2/1 available for him to find the back of the net tomorrow.

Perhaps the best bet is simply Chelsea to win. This season’s Blues side are superior to that of last season and PSG are there for the taking. Indeed the French champions have been putting on some less than impressive performances of late and Chelsea can end their proud home record at a stroke.
