Bolton were in the doldrums in the first few weeks of the season. Then Neil Lennon turned up. Since then the side have risen from relegation candidates to a decent mid-table side. A win at Rotherham's New York Stadium tonight can see them into the top half of the table for the first time this season.
Wanderers haven’t been beaten at all this year and they will be confident of defeating a Rotherham side who are just about clinging on to safety.
The Millers have had a dreadful season so far and they sit a mere three points above the relegation zone in 21st place. Indeed, they have won just one match since early October and have conceded eight goals in their last three outings with just one in reply.
This doesn’t exactly make good reading and it comes as something of a surprise to see the home side start this match as slight 8/5 favourites. Indeed, the Millers have failed to score in eight matches from their last thirteen and we feel that they will struggle against a Wanderers side who managed to keep a Liverpool attack at bay in the FA Cup fourth round last weekend.
Bolton have kept clean sheets seven times since early November and we feel that they will succeed in keeping out a Rotherham attack which along with Sheffield Wednesday and doomed Blackpool have scored less goals than every other side in the Championship.
Bolton by contrast have lost just once since late October and they will be in high spirits following their 0-0 draw with Liverpool in the FA Cup fourth round last weekend. It is with some surprise that they start this match as outsiders at 2/1. Ok so the Wanderers haven’t been the most consistent side on the road, however they have improved considerably since the arrival of Lennon and are facing a Millers side who have failed to win at home since early October.
We feel that this match can only go one way and that is a win for the visitors. It might not be pretty, it may not be a goal-fest, however we’ll be going for a Bolton victory with a clean sheet.
