Jose Mourinho will be eager to take Chelsea a step further towards European glory with a victory over Schalke 04 on Tuesday evening.
The Blues are unbeaten this season across all competitions and will be looking to seal another win on Tuesday against Schalke in the Champions League, a result which would see them through to the last sixteen of the competition as Group G leaders.
The West London side are enjoying a spectacular start to their season, soaring to the top of the Premier League table as well as their Champions League group. Indeed, Chelsea have yet to taste defeat this term and there are many who believe that they will finish their domestic season unbeaten.
They may well suffer defeat in the Champions League, however their primary objective on Tuesday will be to secure a passage into the knockout stages of the competition and we firmly believe that they will achieve that goal this week, second placed Schalke some three points behind the group leaders and Sporting some four points adrift.
History has shown that Chelsea can win in Germany, the two sides clashing in last season’s Champions League with Chelsea running out 3-0 winners. The reverse fixture earlier in this campaign ended with a 1-1 stalemate at Stamford Bridge, a result which the Blues will not be looking to repeat this time around.
Indeed, the West London side defeated Schalke twice last season and it would be no surprise to see them achieve three wins in four attempts on Tuesday evening, especially when one considers their current form. Despite Chelsea being the away side, we definitely fancy the Blues to clinch the points at 17/20, Schalke being up for grabs at 15/4 and a draw available at 11/4.
Nevertheless there are much more tempting prices available for this fixture and we’ll be looking beyond a simple Chelsea win on this occasion. Diego Costa is returning to the goal trail once again and has scored in his last two matches for Chelsea. The Spaniard is a decent price of 13/10 to score anytime in this encounter and he is undoubtedly red hot in front of goal.
Chelsea managed a clean sheet against West Brom at the weekend, however they have sometimes struggled at the back with a mere two shutouts in their last seven outings. They have conceded in all but one of their last nine games on the road and with Schalke hitting the back of the net at Stamford Bridge earlier this season, we feel that they will breach Chelsea’s rearguard this time around, Coral offering a standout 29/10 for a Chelsea win with both teams scoring.
