Sheffield Wednesday v Birmingham City results – Blues will continue their resurgence

Stuart Gray won't be enjoying a home win on Tuesday

Inconsistency has been the key word of Sheffield Wednesday's season so far and they sit mid-table, ten points separating them from the play-off places.

The hosts sit just two points above a Birmingham City side which looked doomed to relegation just a few weeks ago. Much has changed at St Andrews however and the Midlands side look set to make life tough for the Owls at Hillsborough on Tuesday evening.

Sheffield Wednesday’s home form will be a concern for manager Stuart Gray, the side managing just four victories from their fourteen games at Hillsborough. Such form on home turf needs to be improved upon should a push for the play-offs be achievable, however we feel that they will struggle against a Birmingham side which has enjoyed some great success away from home during the latter part of the season.

Indeed, the Blues have suffered just one defeat on the road since the start of November and this record looks set to remain intact on Tuesday. The Owls lost their last home game to the tune of 1-2 against Bolton Wanderers last weekend and despite starting this match as 6/5 favourites, we feel that they can’t be backed with any confidence whatsoever to clinch full points against Birmingham.

Indeed, the arrival of Gary Rowett at St Andrews has sparked new life into Birmingham City. The Blues started the season in dreadful fashion, culminating in a 8-0 thrashing at home to Bournemouth in late October however since then, the side have suffered just one defeat at St Andrews and despite being knocked out of the FA Cup by local rivals West Brom last weekend they will be in high spirits coming into this match, having enjoyed wins over Nottingham Forest and Wigan and an away draw with Leeds United in their last three Championship outings.

As such, we feel that 3/1 at Bet365 for a Blues win represents great value and we’ll be grabbing this with both hands.

Clayton Donaldson scored a hat-trick in the 3-1 defeat of Wigan earlier this month and the striker will be eager to add to his season total of eleven goals in this clash at 12/5 with Sky Bet.

This looks set to be an extremely close run affair, however Birmingham are in the ascendancy at the moment and Rowett can weave his magic once again with another Blues win.
