Southampton suffered a surprise defeat to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup last weekend, however they will bounce back in style against a striker-less Swansea side at St Mary's.
Southampton’s 3-2 reversal against the Eagles was their first loss since their Capital One Cup defeat to Sheffield United in mid-December and they will be confident of returning to winning ways against a Swansea City side who appear to have completely lost their way since Christmas.
Southampton are still flying high in the top flight under Ronald Koeman and the fans are already dreaming of a Champions League place at the end of the season, something which is increasingly looking achievable.
With the Saints now out of the domestic cup competitions, they can focus solely on the task in hand, that being the Premier League. Indeed, this match will be an opportunity to see whether Southampton can continue their winning ways in the top flight following a two week break. Koeman’s side are proving themselves to be creative up front, hard to break down in midfield and stubborn at the back, a decent combination should they wish to clinch a top-four position at the end of the season.
Swansea are no mugs either, however things are certainly going downhill fast at the south Wales club. The Swans started the season in decent form but the departure of Wilfried Bony is undoubtedly hitting the team hard.
The Welshmen have conceded eight goals in their last two outings, five of these coming at the Liberty against Swansea and the other three courtesy of Championship side Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup last weekend. Defence is certainly a problem area for the visitors and is something which the Saints will be keen to exploit to the full.
As such, we’re expecting something of a goalfest for the hosts on Sunday. The Saints have kept clean sheets against Arsenal, Manchester United and Ipswich Town this month and we expect them to manage a fourth this coming weekend.
Graziano Pelle is the top scorer for the Saints and he will be eager to add to his tally of 12 for the season in this match. He opened the scoring against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup and he looks decent value at 6/4 with Betfair to score anytime on Sunday.
We’re expecting a one-sided affair at St Mary’s this weekend and another defeat for the beleaguered Swans.
