Tottenham need to be at their best to overcome a decent Fiorentina side in the first leg of the last-32 round tonight. With an excellent record in this season's competition, we expect nothing less.
Spurs haven’t been in action since 10th February when they lost 3-2 to Liverpool at Anfield. This followed a 2-0 win over Arsenal and Pochettino’s side will be confident of returning to winning ways in the Europa League this evening.
Things won’t be so easy however. Fiorentina are in excellent form at the moment and head into this match on the back of some excellent results, including a 2-0 win away at Roma and wins against Atalanta and Sassuolo. Indeed, with ten goals in their last five outings, we feel that they will certainly score against a Spurs defence which is hardly the most solid in the Premier League.
The home side start this match as firm favourites, however this clash will be very evenly matched and Spurs will struggle to pierce the visiting defence. Nevertheless, if anyone can, Harry Kane can and we’ll be backing Spurs’ top scorer to add to his already considerable tally of 21 goals this season by finding the back of the net at some stage of tonight’s proceedings.
The deciding factor in the two legs of this round will be away goals however and Spurs will be determined to get themselves a comprehensive win at White Hart Lane ahead of the second leg in Italy next week. Whilst we anticipate that Spurs will get the required win, it won’t be by a wide margin and Fiorentina will score a valuable away goal which will make things a bit trickier for the North London in the second leg.
