Sunderland secured local bragging rights when they beat bitter rivals Newcastle United in the Tyne-Wear derby. They will be desperate to follow this up with another three points against the Tigers on Boxing Day.
The Black Cats went into their derby match on Saturday on the back of some poor form, having failed to win any of their previous six Premier League outings. Nevertheless they were in high spirits heading into the match and their confidence was boosted further when Adam Johnson fired them into a 1-0 lead with a goal which proved to be the only one of the match, thus securing Sunderland’s fourth consecutive win over their arch-rivals.
Sunderland will be desperate to build upon that excellent result and there will be plenty of opportunity to do just that as the side embarks on a very hectic schedule over the Christmas period with three matches over a week, starting when they welcome Hull City to the Stadium of Light on Boxing Day. The home fans will be eager to witness their side register their first win at home since October and we feel that they won’t be disappointed at the final whistle on Friday.
Hull City are struggling in this season’s Premier League, their 1-0 defeat to Swansea City last week extending their winless run to some ten matches. The side sit in the relegation zone in second bottom position and the future of manager Steve Bruce is very much in the balance.
The Tigers have an extremely poor scoring record, failing to find the back of the net in all but three of their last ten outings and not scoring at all in the last three games. With Sunderland possessing a solid rearguard, the Tigers will struggle to score at the Stadium of Light. As such, we’ll be backing a win for the Black Cats with a clean sheet, up for grabs at 11/5 with BetVictor.
Bet365 offer 21/20 for a home win on Friday and this price is worth serious consideration, however Hull will fail to register a single goal and a Black Cats win-to-nil offers the best value in this clash.
