Tottenham Hotspur v Sheffield United betting tips – Time up for the brave Blades

Giant-killing Blades will be blunted by a dominant Spurs side

There is something about cup competitions that brings out the best in League One side Sheffield United. This will be put very much to the test when they travel to White Hart Lane on Tuesday and it's a test which they will ultimately fail.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino certainly won’t be taking this match lightly. The Blades have been undoubted specialists in cup competitions over the last couple of seasons, however Spurs will prove too big an obstacle for them to overcome in the Capital One Cup semi-final.

It has been seven years since the north London side got their hands on any silverware, this being a 2-1 win against Chelsea in the 2008 League Cup final. They will have a huge chance to take a step towards the finals once again and are massive odds-on favourites to triumph in the first match of this two-legged affair, Betfred amongst a host of bookies offering 4/11 for a home win.

The Blades have caused a couple of cup upsets, dumping Premier League high-flyers Southampton out of this very competition as well as defeating QPR in the third round of the FA Cup. It is extremely unlikely that another cup upset will be on the cards on Tuesday evening however and we’ll be backing a Spurs win whilst looking for some additional value by avoiding the straight-win market.

Added value isn’t far away and we’re heading straight towards a Spurs win-to-nil in this clash. We wouldn’t normally associate clean sheets with Spurs this season, however the Blades will likely be concentrating on taking few chances and attempting to stay in the two-legged tie ahead of the return leg at Bramall Lane and as such, we don’t anticipate much attacking from the visitors on Tuesday.

Spurs are particularly adept in front of goal this season and we would expect them to find little difficulty in piercing the United defence on this occasion. The visitors have managed just three clean-sheets in their last eleven outings and they will certainly concede against Premier League opponents on Tuesday evening. As such, we’ll be sticking our necks and going for a 2-0 win for the home side in this semi-final first leg.
