Wolfsburg v Everton betting tips – Toffees can add to their points total

Wolfsburg will seek revenge against the Toffees

A win for Everton over Wolfsburg tonight will secure them a passage through to the knockout stages of the Europa League.

Everton have performed above expectations in Europe’s second tier competition so far, manager Roberto Martinez confident that he can steer the side through to the knockout stages. Home wins against Lille and Wolfsburg and draws against both Lille and Krasnodar have lifted the Toffees to the top of Group H and within spitting distance of the next round of the competition. Their progress will be secured tonight with a win against second placed VfL Wolfsburg.

Everton have proven wrong the often held belief that Europa League participation can affect domestic performances, the Merseyside club entering this clash on the back of a five match unbeaten run in the Premier League. Indeed, odds of 4/1 at Bet365 for a Toffees win tonight look extremely high given the side’s recent form in all competitions.

The hosts will be eager to exact revenge on Everton for their 4-1 thrashing at Goodison Park in their last meeting and will be in high spirits following some decent performances in the competition since that defeat. Wolfsburg have also been in top form in the Bundesliga, winning all but one of their last seven games and sitting second to league leaders Bayern Munich. As such, they start this match as favourites at 5/6 with Betfred.

Toffees boss Roberto Martinez has been keen to prove his side’s attacking and defensive prowess away from home, this match likely to see a defensive game with periodic counter attacks, a style which could prove useful in forthcoming fixtures where a draw away from home could prove valuable.

Either way, despite Wolfsburg proving themselves hard to beat at home, Everton know how to get past them and we fancy the visitors to clinch the points tonight. Ok so this could prove a low-scoring encounter, Everton playing the defensive game expected tonight, however they will need to keep things tight at the back against the hosts. Odds of 5/4 at Betfair for there to be under 2.5 goals looks the safest option for us.

Both of these sides are certainly improving of late and each will fancy their chances of progressing far in the competition. Nevertheless, they need to secure a passage to the next round so each will be seeking maximum points tonight.
