Predicting Nico de Boinville’s Rides in Big Races

Nico de Boinville is the number one jockey for the legendary trainer Nicky Henderson and will predominantly be riding for his boss in the big races of the season. De Boinville has won nearly all of the major races on the calendar in the past, so his rides are always worth considering if you fancy a flutter on one of the best UK betting sites.

Below, our experts will attempt to make educated guesses on which horses Nico de Boinville will ride in the big races of the season, and all of the updated ante-post prices for the selected horses will be available.

Whether or not you decide to take the early prices on de Boinville’s rides at the big festivals is up to you, but experience can be key in any top-level sport, and he has certainly got that in abundance.

Who will Nico de Boinville ride in the Grand National?

The Grand National is one major race that has so far eluded the former Champion jumps jockey. This is mainly due to the fact his boss, Nicky Henderson, has amazingly still not been victorious in the Aintree showpiece.

Unfortunately for De Boinville, Henderson is once again without a standout star for the 2023 renewal, with the pair likely to be represented by last year’s Topham favourite, Mister Coffey. That horse is preparing to line up in the National Hunt Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, so more should be known about his stamina reserves in the aftermath.

Who will Nico de Boinville ride in the Champion Hurdle?

Despite Nico de Boinville’s major success at the Cheltenham Festival, the Champion Hurdle is still a race that has yet to be added to his cv. That is likely to change in 2023, however, as De Boinville will be getting the leg up on the new superstar of racing, Constitution Hill.

The pair have formed a deadly partnership in the brilliant horse’s short career and are many people’s idea of an absolute banker for the Champion Hurdle. Currently a short odds-on favourite for the prestigious race, De Boinville should be celebrating a Champion Hurdle victory in 2023.

Who will Nico de Boinville ride in the Champion Chase?

Having had the privilege of riding the top-class pair of Sprinter Sacre and Altior to Champion Chase glory, De Boinville knows what it takes to win the top two-mile chase in racing. Altior’s second win in 2019 was De Boinville’s third victory in the race, but unfortunately, he has little chance of adding to that tally this year.

With Nicky Henderson deciding to step up in trip for the Ryanair with the rejuvenated Shishkin, it is unlikely that De Boinville will have a ride in the race at all. The best he can hope for is a spare ride for a trainer such as Willie Mullins, who has multiple entries, but that is unlikely.

Who will Nico de Boinville ride in the Gold Cup?

Nico de Boinville has one Cheltenham Gold Cup win to his name so far, that coming in 2015 when he steered Coneygree to become the first novice chaser to win the race in over 40 years. Since then, De Boinville has enjoyed little luck, and luck is what he will need if he is to win his second Cheltenham Festival showpiece.

With Nicky Henderson not having an entrant in the race this year, De Boinville’s best hope of a ride will come in the form of the Sam Thomas-trained outsider, Angels Breath. De Boinville has partnered the rank outsider on all but two of his racecourse starts and could get the leg up on the nine-year-old.

Biography

Nicolai W. Chastel de Boinville, or Nico de Boinville, was born in Baughurst, Hampshire, in England on the 14th August 1989. Despite his family having no connection to horse racing, de Boinville became enamored with the sport in his teens and decided to try to make a career as a jockey despite having very limited experience in the equine world.

De Boinville attended private school in his early years, and although he had started studying politics at university, he would finally get his first chance to experience horse racing up close when spending time with French-based trainer, Richard Gibson on his gap year.

He would eventually return to Britain with even more determination to become a jockey but was made to start at the very bottom by becoming a stable lad for Nicky Henderson. During his time at Seven Barrows, De Boinville had the opportunity to learn his trade from the likes of AP McCoy and Barry Geraghty, something that has served him well in the years since.

De Boinville eventually worked himself up to be the backup rider to Geraghty, but his name was originally made by being the regular work rider of the brilliant Sprinter Sacre.

Since Geraghty retired from the saddle, the sky has been the limit for the now 33-year-old De Boinville. Henderson put his trust in the young rider, and he was rewarded with a string of top-riding performances in the biggest races of the season, marking him out as a name to watch when making wagers at racing betting sites.

Despite having such close ties with Henderson, De Boinville’s first experience of Cheltenham Festival victory came in 2015 when he partnered Coneygree to become the first novice chaser to win the Gold Cup for over 40 years.

From here, it was all about partnering Henderson’s stable stars in the big Grade 1 races, and in 2016 he partnered Altior and Sprinter Sacre to victories at Cheltenham. He would go on to win two more times on Altior at the festival, and then win twice again on the brilliant Shishkin in the Supreme Novices and the Arkle.

This season De Boinville has once again found a superstar to partner for Henderson. Constitution Hill is arguably the biggest name in racing at the moment and is a short odds-on favourite to follow up last year’s Supreme Novices win by bagging the Champion Hurdle.

If Britain’s banker for 2023 were to win, it would be De Boinville’s first win in the race and would move him on to a total of 16 wins at the festival in his career.
