After winning their first three matches of the season, Aston Villa have entered a slump and not really emerged from it, with the Midlands side having won just two matches since the middle of August.

Two victories in fourteen matches means it’s difficult to feel too confident that they will win Friday night’s match against Bolton, with Dean Smith still working out what his new squad need to challenge for promotion.

Villa are seventeenth in the table right now, with the team having suffered defeats away to Norwich and QPR most recently, although the squad is packed with enough quality players to be challenging at the right end of the division.

This will be Smith’s first home match in charge although there might be some nervousness within the ranks, with the pressure off Bolton who have largely kept things tight on the road this term.

Wanderers have won two and drawn three of their seven away games, with Phil Parkinson remaining in charge and doing a commendable job, although four of their previous five matches have ended in defeat.

Since beating Derby County, it’s been just one point recorded although they did win at West Brom and Reading earlier this term, with Clayton Donaldson and Christian Doidge the preferred pairing.

Villa will quite simply want to get over the line in this match and it could be worth siding with the visitors on the Asian Handicap market, with a slender defeat meaning this bet still pays out.
