How Kansas Sportsbook Licensing Works
Kansas sports betting is available through the state’s four casinos, which are state-owned and managed through the Kansas Lottery. Each casino can host up to three online sportsbooks, known as skins, which sets a ceiling of 12 across the state.
A casino can also request an additional skin tied to a professional sports team, such as Sporting Kansas City. Seven online sportsbooks are live today, well short of the ceiling.
Six of the seven live sportsbooks work through one of these casinos. bet365 is the lone exception: it launched in August 2025 as the first Kansas sportsbook without a retail casino partner.
Kansas has not legalized online casino gaming, so you can’t play online slots or table games at a regulated Kansas site. Attempts to expand the Kansas Expanded Lottery Act to cover online casinos have failed, and any change would need new legislation.

Is Sports Betting Legal in Kansas?
Kansas sports betting is legal and live. It launched on Sept. 1, 2022, less than four months after Gov. Laura Kelly signed Senate Bill 84 into law in mid-May 2022.
The law sets the minimum age at 21 and allows betting on college sports. Sportsbook revenue is taxed at 10%, and bets can be placed online or at the state’s four casinos. The law also allows sports betting at as many as 50 other retail locations.
Three of the state’s four federally recognized tribes have also amended their gaming compacts to allow sports wagering on tribal lands.

Parlay Insurance
Parlay insurance refunds your stake if one leg of a parlay loses. Many sportsbooks pay the refund as a bonus bet rather than cash, cap the amount and require a minimum number of legs or minimum odds on each leg. Spread betting is wagering on a team to win a game by a certain amount of points. For instance, the Chiefs might be a -6.5 favorite in an NFL game. Parlays

Kansas began trying to legalize sports betting in 2019, the year after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the federal ban. The COVID-19 pandemic delayed progress, but a compromise came in 2022. Senate Bill 84 passed the legislature in April 2022, and Gov. Laura Kelly signed it in mid-May.
The Kansas Lottery and the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission (KRGC) oversee sports betting under the Kansas Expanded Lottery Act. The state’s four casinos are state-owned and managed through the Kansas Lottery, and the KRGC also regulates sports betting advertising.

Kansas sports betting is live and legal, but a 2025 budget provision raised questions about its long-term future. Laura Kelly vetoed it, and lawmakers overrode the veto.
