Manchester City are clocking up the miles before the international break, having travelled to the AMEX Stadium for the first game of the season before flying out to Girona for a friendly match.

Now they are back on the south coast to face Bournemouth and a victory looks to be on the cards despite Everton holding them to a 1-1 draw on Monday thanks to some stout defending from the visitors.

Pep Guardiola might have a glowing reputation after his achievements at Barcelona and, to a lesser extent, Bayern Munich. However, he’s struggling to get the winning recipe at the Etihad Stadium and much of Monday’s match was spent running into Everton’s brick wall.

That said, this fixture looks more favourable and Eddie Howe’s side are currently floundering after losing at West Brom and then at home to Watford. A pointless start has left the manager searching for answers.

There have been no goals scored to date, with the Cherries drawing a blank at The Hawthorns despite plenty of possession and they weren’t at the races against Watford either.

Jermain Defoe might be in a position to start this clash, with Benik Afobe potentially making way, although Howe will be more concerned by a lack of creativity and there haven’t been any new players recruited in that department.

Guardiola will shuffle the pack after Kyle Walker’s red card, with Gabriel Jesus hoping to get more than a handful of minutes and perhaps Bernardo Silva will provide some cutting edge after looking handy against the Toffees.

While the back three of John Stones, Vincent Kompany and Nicolas Otamendi didn’t look particularly solid against Everton, we’re expecting them to contain a Bournemouth side who might have rested on their laurels after finishing ninth last term.
