The Football League returns on Friday with a Championship clash that has Brighton and Hove Albion hosting Nottingham Forest, but recent history in this fixture doesn’t favour home teams.

It’s the away side who have won three of the last four meetings, so that makes Dougie Freedman’s Reds fabulous value at a best-price 13/5 with BetVictor for victory.

Forest have strengthened their squad by adding centre half Matt Mills and on-loan Leicester City stopper Ben Hamer at the back, plus Jamie Ward from bitter rivals Derby County in attack; all without spending because of a transfer embargo.

While Northern Ireland forward Ward has never scored in eight career attempts against the Seagulls, Freedman can count on playmaker Henri Lansbury, who has struck four times in this fixture. Top odds of 9/2 with Betway for the ex-Arsenal midfielder to net anytime are thus very generous indeed.

Michail Antonio, the Tricky Trees’ player of last season, remains at the City Ground side for now, and will continue to court Premier League interest if he notches here (also best-price 9/2, but with bet365). West Bromwich Albion could come back with another bid after missing out on Bakary Sako to Crystal Palace.

Brighton boss Chris Hughton, meanwhile, has tried to address the dearth of goals from last term by investing heavily in attacking options. Israel striker Tomer Hemed and ex-England target man Bobby Zamora, back at the Seagulls for a second spell, are expected to be paired up top.

Hemed has been a force at international level, with 888.com offering top odds of 40/17 for him to cap his Brighton bow by scoring anytime. Zamora returns to the south coast after more than a decade, meanwhile, and grabbed the last goal on his previous meeting with Forest for QPR. A repeat performance here has a best-price 7/1 with bet365.

Watch out for young Jack Harper too, who left Real Madrid after time in their academy and youth setup for Brighton. If involved, this precocious forward-thinking talent is a top punt of 3/1 anytime at Betway.

Goals are virtually guaranteed in this game with the last two meetings at the Amex Stadium containing at least four apiece, so the match total being over 3.5 is well worth a look as well at a best bet of 17/5 with BetVictor.

Conservative coach Hughton has brought in seven fresh faces who will target senior football this season with the Seagulls, and it may take them time to gel. This only reinforces the above, and shows why a largely similar Forest squad should start off with victory.
