A return of 44 points from 24 matches will have pleased Chris Hughton as we usher the old year out, even if 2015 ended on a sour note.

Relinquishing a 2-0 lead at Loftus Road to draw against QPR was followed by consecutive home defeats against Middlesbrough and Ipswich. The losses sandwiched a goalless draw against Brentford and the Seagulls have seemingly forgotten how to score.

However, there’s possibly been an over-reaction on the part of the bookies who have pushed out Albion to a juicy odds-against price for their New Year’s Day clash against a Wolves side who were recently trounced at Hillsborough.

After all, before Brighton’s mini-goal drought, they had scored nine goals in four matches and come very close to leaving Derby with all three points.

Hughton still has plenty of attacking options, with the exciting James Wilson on loan from Manchester United, although Tomer Hemed has seen his goals dry up and the Israeli has just one from his last fourteen encounters.

Wolves are starting to pick up after a slow start to the season and Kenny Jackett has gone back to basics with the team’s defence. A 1-0 win against Reading was followed by a 2-0 victory at Charlton, with Wanderers now up to eleventh.

However, that still leaves them thirteen points behind Brighton and the bottom line is that the Sussex side have won eight of twelve games at the AMEX Stadium. It was eight from ten before the arrivals of Boro and Ipswich so we’re backing them to return to winning ways.
