Derby have played six games in all competitions this season and there have been just six goals scored. Neither Chris Martin nor Darren Bent have found their shooting boots, with the Rams drawing three blanks and only edging past Grimsby and Carlisle in League Cup matches.

Indeed, County were second best when drawing with Aston Villa last weekend and they make the short trip to the Pirelli Stadium on Friday night to face a side who have been banging in the goals even if they’ve been shipping them frequently too.

Burton have plenty of team spirit and they’ve already beaten Sheffield Wednesday this season, with the Brewers likely to continue their attacking approach for this local derby where all the pressure is on the visitors.

Derby have been pretty solid at the back, with Richard Keogh and Jason Shackell one of the best central defensive partnerships in the Championship, while the tough-tackling Craig Bryson affords plenty of defensive protection.

However, there’s an issue creating chances and Burton will feel this is a good time to be facing a side who were among the favourites to get promoted, with Albion having brushed themselves down after a 5-0 defeat in the League Cup against Liverpool.

A 2-2 draw at Blackburn last weekend illustrated that the Midlands side can scrap away to the final whistle and they were a touch unfortunate to lose at home to Bristol City after equalising late only to concede an even later winner.

Derby have lost at Barnsley already and look plenty short enough against opponents who will go for broke and look to pose plenty of problems for a team who won’t be able to defend all night and look for openings as they come along.
