Paul Clement watched his Derby team boss the first half at Turf Moor on Monday night although some abject defending from the Rams saw Burnley run out 4-1 winners.

It means that County are really in the doldrums coming into this game, with their promotion push having taken a hit after landing just a point from their last three matches.

Some welcome respite is available on Friday night when the Rams play the role of underdog, with Derby entertaining a Manchester United side who are having a disappointing season of their own.

The Red Devils were beaten at home to Southampton last weekend and Louis van Gaal has done seemingly little to improve matters since replacing David Moyes.

United’s lack of goals and creative flair means it’s hard to back them at even money, even if they recently won at Anfield.

Derby are still one of the best attacking teams in the division, with Nick Blackman having recently joined the ranks, while Chris Martin is a good line leader and there are goals coming from a midfield which includes Thomas Ince.

County’s defending has been poor in recent matches to the extent that they have shipped seven in two, although they usually find the net and could be facing a United side weakened as LVG looks ahead to a midweek clash.

Therefore, we’re not prepared to back either team to deliver the goods although there should be goals at both ends, with Derby having little to lose from playing freely and United capable of scoring goals on the road as they demonstrated during a 3-3 draw with Newcastle.
